RASC News Agency: Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s spokesperson, has announced that Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Afghanistan, has been expelled from the country and is permanently barred from reentry. Mujahid accused Bennett of being “commissioned” to conduct propaganda against the Taliban-administered Afghanistan, dismissing him as an unreliable figure for the Taliban “government.”
In an interview with Deutsche Welle, Mujahid confirmed Bennett’s expulsion, asserting that he would no longer be allowed entry into Afghanistan. He emphasized that women’s rights are being upheld in strict accordance with Islamic Sharia under the Taliban’s rule, insisting that women face no difficulties within their administration. Mujahid rejected Bennett’s claims of “gender apartheid,” maintaining that the Taliban have provided, and will continue to provide, employment opportunities for women to the extent permitted by Islamic law.
In his latest report, Richard Bennett, citing human rights activists, described the violations of women’s rights in Afghanistan, stating that the Taliban have established “gender apartheid” in the country. He also called for the prosecution of Taliban officials involved in human rights abuses at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. The Taliban’s assertions of safeguarding women’s rights under their regime come amidst widespread deprivation of fundamental rights for Afghanistani women, with millions of girls prohibited from attending secondary schools and universities.
Moreover, Afghanistani citizens, along with Islamic scholars and intellectuals, argue that the oppression of women under Taliban rule is not grounded in Islam. They assert that the Taliban’s actions stem from their tribal culture, and that they are imposing their ethnic and tribal values under the pretext of “Islam and Sharia” in Afghanistan.
