RASC News Agency: Local sources report that a border clash between Taliban forces and Pakistani troops in the Momand Dara district of Nangarhar province resulted in the deaths of a woman and her three sons. The fatalities occurred when a mortar struck their home. On Monday, August 12, local sources informed the media that border forces from both sides engaged in hostilities near the Torkham crossing, leading to the closure of this vital border point.
Neither the Taliban’s security command nor Pakistani authorities have commented on the incident thus far. However, earlier reports suggested that fresh Taliban forces were being dispatched to the area. It is noteworthy that just two days ago, local sources in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces reported unidentified fighter jets patrolling the skies over these regions.
Taliban officials in Nangarhar dismissed earlier media reports, labeling them as baseless, which claimed that Pakistani jets had bombed targets in the Momand Dara district of Nangarhar province. The Taliban’s police command in Nangarhar stated that old explosives had detonated in Momand Dara, countering claims of an airstrike.
This incident is not an isolated one, as Taliban border forces and Pakistani soldiers have clashed repeatedly over the past three years, resulting in casualties on both sides. Relations between Pakistan and the Taliban have grown increasingly strained due to the activities of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). In recent months, Pakistan announced that it would conduct operations inside Afghanistan against TTP militants.
