Traffic Accident in Maidan Wardak Claims Four Lives

RASC News Agency: A traffic accident in Behsud district, Maidan Wardak province, has resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left one person injured. Bakhtar News Agency, which operates under Taliban control, reported on Sunday, August 11th, that the accident occurred following a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle.

Yusuf Israr, the Taliban police spokesperson in Maidan Wardak, confirmed that the incident took place the previous night, resulting in casualties and injuries. According to the report, the accident involved a Land Cruiser en route from Bamiyan to Kabul, which collided with a motorcycle in the Hissa-e-Awal area of Behsud district before overturning. This incident is part of a broader pattern of traffic accidents reported on highways and roads, particularly in central provinces, over the past several months.

Earlier this year, in late July, a traffic accident on the Herat-Adraskan road also claimed the lives of eight people. Contributing factors to these accidents include the poor and substandard condition of roads, reckless driving, excessive speed, failure to adhere to traffic regulations, and unfamiliarity with certain routes.

It is important to note that decades of conflict and war, coupled with the neglect of infrastructure development by authorities, have left many of the nation’s highways and roads in a dangerous and substandard state.
