RASC News Agency: In a recent article, the women’s magazine “Women’s Magazine” asserts that the Taliban have undone all progress made in Afghanistan. The magazine emphasizes that Afghanistani women and girls are currently suffering under “systematic oppression by the Taliban.” The article describes the Taliban as fundamentally misogynistic, opposing women’s participation in work and education. It further elaborates that the current situation in Afghanistan is dire, yet the global community remains largely unaware of the full extent of the crisis affecting women and the entire population.
One section of the article notes: “It is easy to remember Afghanistan as a country long associated with war and destruction; however, before the Taliban’s initial rule in 1996 and their return in August 2021, Afghanistan was on a path toward progress.” The magazine highlights that the events unfolding in Afghanistan are unimaginable anywhere else. The country is depicted as one where women are considered of little value. Additionally, the article argues that the right to education and learning for Afghanistani girls and women is a global issue that should be addressed as such.
The Taliban have previously stated that issues related to women’s rights to education and employment are internal matters that their government will address. However, Human Rights Watch has reported that Taliban violence against women is “deepening daily,” with the group systematically violating Afghanistani women’s and girls’ rights to education, employment, healthcare, and even the freedom to walk in public spaces.
