Most Public Welfare Projects in Nangarhar Implemented in Taliban Strongholds

RASC News Agency: Local sources from Nangarhar province report that the Taliban are predominantly implementing public welfare projects in districts where they had a strong presence during the republic era. On Sunday, July 21, sources informed the media that the Taliban are interfering with the execution of development projects by international organizations in the province.

According to these sources, the implementation of development projects in several districts of Nangarhar, including Kama, Dara-i-Nur, and Surkh-Rod, has been reduced because the residents did not cooperate with the Taliban during the republic. The sources indicate that public welfare projects are being carried out in districts where residents had collaborated with the Taliban during the previous government.

Residents of these districts have called on aid organizations to implement development projects in Nangarhar fairly. Local Taliban officials in Nangarhar stated that last year, with the financial assistance of international organizations, work on 211 projects costing 76 million USD began in Jalalabad city and the province’s districts.

According to these officials, 120 projects have been completed and are operational, while work on 90 other projects is still ongoing. This news comes amid complaints from residents of other provinces about Taliban members interfering with both cash and in-kind aid provided by international organizations.
