Taliban Obstruct Aid Collection for Recent Storm Victims in Nangarhar

RASC News Agency: Several active youth from Nangarhar province report that their efforts to collect aid for victims of the recent storm have been obstructed by the Taliban. Residents of Nangarhar stated on Friday, July 20, that the Taliban dismantled a donation collection tent in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, which was set up to help recent storm victims.

According to these young activists, they encountered Taliban resistance despite having received permission from the group a day earlier to collect aid. Some activists mentioned that they had planned to expand the aid collection efforts to other densely populated districts in the province. Local Taliban officials in Nangarhar have yet to comment on the matter.

The Taliban’s obstruction comes after heavy rains and a severe storm hit parts of Nangarhar province on Monday, July 16. Reports indicate that at least 52 people lost their lives and 350 were injured due to the natural disaster. The storm also caused significant financial losses for local residents. It is noteworthy that the Taliban’s interference occurs amid their ongoing failure to implement any programs to assist natural disaster victims during their rule.

Furthermore, since the Taliban took control, the activities of several humanitarian organizations have decreased or stopped altogether due to the group’s restrictions and interference.
