RASC News Agency: Amnesty International has stated that despite the ongoing human rights abuses in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, the world remains a “spectator” to the situation. Amnesty International recently expressed this sentiment using the hashtag “End Impunity” on X, formerly known as Twitter: “The Taliban must respect and protect human rights in Afghanistan.”
In a previous statement reacting to the latest UN report on the actions and behavior of the Taliban’s Ministry of “Promotion of Virtue,” Amnesty International emphasized that the United Nations “must end the rampant impunity for human rights violations” in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Amnesty International has further stressed that “the violation and abuse of human rights, including corporal punishment, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, torture, gender-based harassment of women, and deprivation of education must end.”
Since returning to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have imposed severe and stringent restrictions on the rights of women and girls. In nearly three years of Taliban rule, Afghan women and girls have been barred from education, schooling, and employment. The Taliban have not altered these policies. A United Nations report reviewed the actions and conduct of the Taliban’s Ministry of “propagation of Virtue,” labeling it the “biggest violator of human rights” in Afghanistan.
Amnesty International has repeatedly highlighted the oppression, inequality, and lawlessness in Afghanistan and urged the Taliban to respect these issues. However, the Taliban have yet to comply with any legal or regulatory standards.
