Sahar Fetrat: Taliban’s Violence Deepens Daily

RASC News Agency: In the ongoing reactions to the exclusion of women from the Doha talks, Sahar Fetrat, a researcher with Human Rights Watch, stated that the violence perpetrated by the Taliban intensifies every day. She expressed these views on Monday, June 24, in an article published on the Human Rights Watch website. Fetrat used a Persian proverb to illustrate her point: “Salt is used to remedy what is spoiled, but woe to the day when the salt itself is spoiled.”

She warned, “If the third Doha meeting proceeds as planned, the United Nations will establish a very damaging precedent and betray the fight of Afghanistani women for their rights.” According to Fetrat, excluding women and attempting to appease the Taliban will tarnish the UN’s credibility. The third Doha meeting, held without inviting women, has sparked significant backlash. Previously, 100 women from 28 provinces called for a boycott of the meeting.

Notably, the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a delegation led by their spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, would attend the Doha talks. The invitation to the Taliban for the third Doha meeting has been condemned by various political and military groups opposing the Taliban. Over nearly three years of Taliban rule, the group has imposed numerous restrictions on citizens’ lives, particularly affecting women and depriving them of their most fundamental rights.
