RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court announced that the group has carried out public floggings of a woman and two men in Parwan province as part of their continued practice of extrajudicial punishments. According to a statement released on Tuesday, June 25, by the Taliban’s Supreme Court, the woman was flogged in Parwan province on charges of fleeing from home.

The statement also indicated that the two men were punished in Parwan on charges of theft. The Taliban’s statement mentioned that each individual received 39 lashes and was sentenced to three years of imprisonment. The Taliban reported that their appellate court in Parwan province issued and executed these punishment orders.

Throughout nearly three years of their rule, the Taliban have repeatedly subjected accused individuals to public punishments in various provinces. In a recent incident, the Taliban flogged a woman in the Obe district of Herat province with 39 lashes on charges of extramarital relations.

Richard Bennett, the UN Human Rights Council’s special rapporteur, remarked that such punishments violate commitments to prevent torture and other inhumane treatments.

Despite widespread international criticism of the Taliban’s public punishments, the group has defended their actions, describing them as “lessons” for society.
