RASC News Agency: Local sources in Khost province report that the Taliban’s intelligence unit has recently detained a former military officer of the previous government. Informed sources revealed that the Taliban arrested this former officer on the night of Sunday, June 16, following a severe beating. He was imprisoned in the intelligence office of Gurbuz district, and news of his arrest has only recently come to light.
According to these sources, the detained individual was a member of the border police under the previous government. Following the Taliban’s resurgence, he had been working as a security guard in the district market. Sources added that although Taliban fighters themselves failed to prevent celebratory gunfire on the first night of Eid al-Adha, they arrested and imprisoned this former officer for not stopping the aerial firing.
It is noteworthy that the Taliban have previously detained, beaten, and, in some cases, killed numerous former military personnel under various pretexts. Sources indicate that most of the Taliban’s prisoners are former government soldiers who have been imprisoned without any crime. On the first day of Eid, several individuals from Panjshir, Kandahar, and Badakhshan provinces were arrested. It was reported that these individuals conducted Eid prayers on Sunday, contrary to the Taliban’s edict. Last year, too, people celebrated Eid a day earlier against the Taliban’s decree.
It is worth mentioning that former military personnel of the previous government have been subjected to various forms of oppression, arrest, and torture by the Taliban. However, the Taliban have remained silent on these matters. Amnesty International has repeatedly warned about the Taliban’s arbitrary arrests, labeling their actions as illegal and inhumane, yet the Taliban have not altered their stance.
