Local Journalist Murdered in Uruzgan

RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan Journalists Center has announced the killing of Ehsanullah Pashtun, a local journalist in Uruzgan province. According to a statement released on Wednesday, June 5, by the journalist advocacy group, Pashtun was murdered the previous day in the Safid Khar area of Tarinkot city.

The statement noted that Pashtun, aged 24, worked as a reporter for the local radio station “Shama” and was fatally attacked with a knife during a personal altercation. The statement also mentioned that a friend of Pashtun was injured in the incident, though the reason for the altercation remains unclear.

Since the Taliban’s takeover of the country, there has been a marked increase in criminal activity, particularly mysterious and targeted killings, armed robberies, and kidnappings across various provinces. In a previous incident, unidentified gunmen shot dead two employees of a private contracting firm working on the Qosh Tepa Canal project in Sheberghan, the capital of Jawzjan province.

The rise in insecurity comes despite the Taliban’s frequent claims of nationwide security under their rule. However, reports indicate a contrasting reality.
