RASC News Agency: Rina Amiri, the U.S. Special Envoy for Afghanistani Women, has emphasized the crucial role of Afghanistani women and civil society in the forthcoming third Doha meeting. On Tuesday, June 4, Amiri posted on the social media platform X, disclosing her significant meetings with representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Qatar, France, and Canada.
In these meetings, she advocated for the meaningful inclusion of Afghanistani women and civil society in the third Doha meeting. The meeting, hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and featuring special envoys for Afghanistan from various countries, is scheduled to take place within a month.
The Taliban have also been invited to the third Doha meeting on Afghanistan and are seeking substantial involvement in the discussions. Meanwhile, on Monday, June 3, the Women’s Movement Towards Freedom issued a resolution criticizing the organizers of the Doha meeting for inviting “lobbyists of the Taliban” and facilitating negotiations at the same table.
The resolution stated, “We, the women and girls of Afghanistan, condemn the third Doha meeting if it includes representatives of the Taliban and their lobbyists. However, if the Taliban and their lobbyists are excluded, we see this meeting as an opportunity to establish a democratic and inclusive government in Afghanistan.”
The movement has called on the organizers of the third Doha meeting to invite legitimate representatives of Afghanistani women instead of the Taliban.
