Taliban Arrest Civil Activist in Kabul

RASC News Agency: Reports from Kabul indicate that the Taliban have detained Noor Aqa Ebrahimi, a prominent civil activist, within the province. Sources disclosed on Thursday, May 23, that Noor Aqa Ebrahimi was apprehended by the Taliban the previous day, and his current whereabouts are unknown.

These sources noted that Noor Aqa had previously been arrested twice by the Taliban on allegations of collaborating with the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan. He was released after a period of imprisonment due to a lack of evidence. Family members of Ebrahimi confirmed that he was detained again a few months ago on similar charges and was held by the Taliban for four months.

Prior to the Taliban’s takeover of the country, Noor Aqa Ebrahimi was actively engaged in civil and political activities. His father, Waseel Ebrahimi, served as an advisor to the first vice president in the former government. The Taliban have not yet provided an explanation for the recent arrest of this civil activist. Records from the Taliban’s prison administration reveal that over 12,000 individuals are currently incarcerated in their facilities across the country.

Although Taliban officials assert that there are no political prisoners in their jails, the United States recently reported that more than 90 percent of those detained by the Taliban are political prisoners.
