RASC News Agency: The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reports that recent devastating floods have severely affected 60,000 residents in Baghlan province. In a statement released on Monday, May 20, UNAMA announced that 182 people have died as a result of the floods.

Indrika Ratwatte, UNAMA’s Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator, noted that a significant number of the deceased are women and children. During her visit to Baghlan province, Ratwatte stated that UN humanitarian teams have been dispatched to the provinces of Badakhshan, Baghlan, and Takhar to provide aid to flood victims.

She called on the international community to support and meet the needs of those affected by the flood crisis in Afghanistan. Ratwatte also reported that the UN and its partners have assisted 15,000 flood victims in Baghlan province.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Women’s section reported that women and children affected by the recent floods in Afghanistan are living in dire conditions. In its report, UNAMA described the living conditions of flood victims in northeastern provinces as distressing, noting that men have taken refuge in mosques while women endure unfavorable circumstances.

It is worth noting that the devastating floods in Baghlan province alone have resulted in over 310 deaths and the destruction of thousands of acres of farmland, homes, and shops.
