RASC News Agency: The United Nations has announced that Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the UN Deputy Secretary-General, is scheduled for a two-day visit to Kabul. Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, made this announcement during a press briefing, stating that Lacroix will arrive in Kabul on Wednesday, May 15th.

During his visit, the Deputy Secretary-General will address the dangers of unexploded ordnance from the war era. The Taliban have not yet commented on this visit. Each year, unexploded war munitions claim the lives of Afghanistani citizens.

Previously, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) identified Afghanistan as one of the most heavily mined and explosive-ordnance-contaminated countries.

Recent reports indicate that nearly 606 square kilometers of Afghanistan territory are contaminated with mines and explosive ordnance.
