A Former Soldier Dies After Being Tortured in Taliban Prison

RASC News Agency: Local sources have confirmed to the media that a former soldier died from injuries sustained during torture after being arrested and imprisoned by the Taliban. Sources told the media today, Saturday, April 27, that the individual, named Fuad, was from the village of Choup Bakhsh in the Rabat district of Parwan province. He died two days after being released from prison.

Sources close to him said that Fuad had gone to Iran after the Taliban took control of the country and had been deported from Iran a week ago, returning to Afghanistan. Upon his arrival in Bagram, Fuad was arrested and imprisoned by the Taliban. On Thursday, the Taliban handed Fuad over to his family in critical health condition; however, due to injuries sustained from the Taliban’s “brutal” torture in prison, he passed away today.

The Taliban have previously detained, tortured, and killed former military personnel. Although Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the “missing” leader of the Taliban, announced a general amnesty at the start of their rule, his subordinates have since detained and killed dozens of military personnel, politicians, and journalists.
