RASC News Agency: The Taliban police command in Balkh province reported that a young man in Mazar-e-Sharif, the provincial capital, took his own life. According to a statement released by the Balkh province police command on Thursday, April 25, the individual was identified as Mohammad Amin. He hanged himself with a rope in the fifth district of Mazar-e-Sharif the previous night.

The Taliban police, citing the young man’s relatives, stated that he had been using “tramadol” medication. One of Mohammad Amin’s acquaintances revealed that he had been addicted to medications such as “Zikap” and “tramadol” for several years and noted that many young people use these substances recreationally.

Since the Taliban took control of the country, suicide rates among citizens, particularly young people and women, have risen significantly due to various factors, including economic hardships and domestic violence. Yesterday, two more suicides were reported in Balkh and Badakhshan provinces, both attributed to economic difficulties.

Economic challenges, mental health issues, lack of access to treatment, domestic violence, and the restrictions imposed by the Taliban on citizens’ lives are considered major factors contributing to suicides in the country.
