RASC News Agency: In its latest annual human rights report, the United States Department of State noted that 16 out of 90 female prisoners in northern Afghanistan have become pregnant. On Tuesday, April 23, the U.S. Department of State reported in its annual global human rights review that female prisoners in the provinces of Jowzjan, Faryab, and Samangan were sexually assaulted by the Taliban.
The U.S. State Department recently released its annual human rights report for several countries, including Afghanistan, for 2023. According to the report, female prisoners in northern Afghanistan have been forced to undergo abortions due to repeated sexual assaults by the Taliban. The report stated that prison guards in Samangan province sexually assaulted four female prisoners before executing them.
The report emphasized that Taliban prison officials ordered the termination of pregnancies in the third and fifth months for female prisoners. The U.S. Department of State report also noted that the Taliban lack a system to support victims of sexual assault and provided limited protective services in 2023. The State Department confirmed that 48 female prisoners had suffered severe bleeding due to sexual assault by the Taliban and were transferred to hospitals in Faryab, Jowzjan, and Samangan.
The report also highlighted an increase in underage forced marriages, child trafficking, lack of access to necessary medical care, and honor killings in Afghanistan in 2023.
