United States: If Afghanistani women are sidelined from participation in society, the Taliban will not gain legitimacy

RASC News Agency: Vedant Patel, the Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department, recently stated that if Afghanistani women and girls are excluded from participating in society and the economy, the Taliban will not achieve legitimacy.

Patel made these remarks on Wednesday, April 17th, during a press briefing, emphasizing equal rights for women and girls as a key principle of US policy in Afghanistan. During their more than two years of rule over the country, the Taliban has imposed increasing restrictions on the lives of citizens, especially women and girls, and violated the fundamental rights of citizens.

The global community has highlighted the observance of women’s and girls’ rights and the formation of an inclusive government as conditions for officially recognizing the Taliban.

However, the Taliban has consistently labeled such pressures for the respect of women’s rights and the establishment of an inclusive government as “internal social issues” in response to international pressures.
