RASC News Agency: Turkish media recently reported that 106 Afghanistani migrants aboard a plastic boat were rescued and detained by the Turkish coast guard while en route to Greece. According to Turkish media reports published on Sunday, Feb 25, the coast guard command of this country identified and detained a group of migrants lacking official residency documents on three plastic boats off the shores of Ayvacik.
The Turkish media report stated that these asylum seekers, including 43 children, were pushed back by Greek navy forces toward the Turkish shores, where they were identified, detained, and delivered to the foreign nationals’ return center in the town of Canakkale. Meanwhile, the Turkish coast guard in Izmir announced on Tuesday, Feb 20, that they have also detained dozens of Afghanistani migrants, including children, lacking residency documents.
Human rights organizations have repeatedly criticized Greece in recent years for pushing back asylum seekers. Reports indicate that detention, expulsion, and mistreatment of Afghanistani migrants in Turkey have also increased.
It is worth mentioning that after the Taliban group’s takeover of the country, despite the prevailing conditions in society, a significant wave of individuals has left the country due to threats from this group and are currently at risk of forced expulsion from these countries.
