RASC News Agency: Ian McCary, the Deputy Special Envoy of the United States to the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, stated in his latest remarks that ISIS Khorasan is attempting to launch attacks beyond Afghanistan’s borders under the Taliban’s control. Mr. McCary made these remarks on Friday, Feb 23, among a group of journalists at the two-day “Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS” conference in London.
According to Mr. McCary, Washington is monitoring the activities of ISIS Khorasan closely and maintains contact with the Taliban to combat ISIS. The American official added that ISIS has managed to significantly attract America’s attention in the region. He further noted that the White House is concerned about ISIS Khorasan’s attacks beyond Afghanistan’s borders under the Taliban’s rule.
This American official, who served as a diplomatic mission officer for the United States in Doha from August 2021 to August 2022, added that the communication channel between the US and the Taliban for combating ISIS remains open, engaging in regular discussions with the Taliban in this regard. Ian McCary also emphasized that the two-day conference of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS in London aims to counter ISIS propaganda and recruitment of vulnerable individuals by the group.
The Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS was established in 2014 with 87 members, and according to the coalition, part of its duties involves combating ISIS Khorasan in Afghanistan under the Taliban’s control.
