RASC News Agency: Local sources from the province of Baghlan have reported that the Taliban recently executed a former officer of the Ministry of Interior in the market of the Tala wa Barfak district. On Tuesday, Feb 20, sources informed media outlets that the former military officer, named Zulfiqar, had been executed by Taliban forces on the previous evening. According to these sources, members of the Taliban extracted Zulfiqar from his residence in the district and publicly executed him. The Taliban’s representatives in Baghlan province have not yet issued a statement regarding this incident.
This execution takes place against the backdrop of the Taliban’s more than two years of governance over Afghanistan. Despite their leader’s proclamation of a general amnesty, they have detained, incarcerated, tortured, and, in numerous instances, executed hundreds of former military personnel. In parallel, The New York Times, an American newspaper, has recently described the Taliban’s declaration of a general amnesty as a “spurious claim,” suggesting that the Taliban employ the amnesty announcement as both a pretext and a snare for former military personnel.
An investigative report by this publication disclosed that within just the first six months of the Taliban’s ascendancy, 490 former military and government officials were either killed or vanished under the Taliban’s direction, including relatives of former military personnel and government employees.
