RASC News Agency: Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the US State Department, remarked in his latest statement regarding the Taliban’s absence from the Doha meeting that they were unsurprised by the matter, as “they pursue different objectives.” Miller raised this issue on Tuesday, Feb 20, during a press briefing and added that, from the US perspective, “the Taliban are not the sole actors shaping Afghanistan’s future.”

The spokesperson for the US State Department, in assessing the country’s situation, expressed concerns over the absence of Taliban representatives from the Doha meeting and the reluctance of some other countries to engage with representatives of Afghanistan civil society. This American official added that these countries are advised to interact not only with the Taliban but also with representatives of Afghanistan civil society because, as he stated, the Taliban are not the only significant players in Afghanistan.

Matthew Miller further emphasized that US special envoys had participated in the Doha meeting with the aim of reaffirming the Taliban’s compliance with human rights and preventing Afghanistan from becoming a center for terrorism. He stated: “America seeks an inclusive Afghanistan, represented by various groups of the Afghanistani people, and strives to achieve these objectives in Afghanistan.”

It is worth noting that the Taliban representative refrained from participating in the Doha meeting held on February 18th and 19th, regarding Afghanistan due to what is said to be their non-acceptance of the conditions.
