RASC News Agency: According to reports from American media, the United States is “cautiously” considering reopening its consulate in Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban group without officially recognizing them. As per a report published in the media on Friday, Feb 2nd, Voice of America reports that the U.S. State Department has raised this issue in a new strategic document.
According to the Voice of America report, this action by the United States indicates a potential shift in America’s policy towards engaging with the Taliban group to achieve multiple security, political, and economic objectives. The State Department’s guidance, as mentioned in the Voice of America report, states: “The United States, along with the Taliban, supports access for American citizens to consular services, transparency, and accountability.”
Based on this document, the United States emphasizes its support for the work of its special envoy regarding hostages and the release of American hostages held in Afghanistan prisons. After the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan over two years ago, the United States closed its embassy in Afghanistan, and this institution is currently operational under its staff in Doha.
It has been over two years since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, yet they have not been officially recognized by any country; however, some countries still maintain close relations with this group.
