RASC News Agency: Sources from Badakhshan have reported the apprehension of Qari Wasil’s son, the Taliban police commander for Badakhshan province, along with three other group members, on charges of drug trafficking and sales. Media outlets were notified on Sunday, December 24th, that authorities detained these individuals while they were transporting 50 kilograms of marijuana in a Ranger-type vehicle near the Tajikistan border, specifically in the Yangi Qala district of Takhar province.
The identified individuals include Sawabuddin, Siab Khan, and Mohammad Yaser, the son of Qari Wasil. In addition to the drug-related charges, authorities have disclosed the confiscation of two M-40-type weapons, including a “sniper” and an American rifle, from these individuals. According to reliable sources, Qari Wasil’s son has been returned to Badakhshan, but the other three members of the group remain incarcerated in Takhar province.
Moreover, despite the Taliban group’s claims of efforts to reduce drug cultivation, smuggling, and sales in Afghanistan, persistent reports suggest otherwise. Many residents consistently allege that individuals associated with the Taliban are actively involved in drug cultivation and smuggling, allegations that the group vehemently denies.
It is crucial to emphasize that since the Taliban assumed control in Afghanistan, numerous countries have expressed concerns about the proliferation of drug trafficking and terrorist organizations originating from the nation. The international community remains vigilant, closely monitoring the situation and addressing these pressing issues.
