RASC News Agency: Residents of Badghis Province have recently announced the initiation of a two-day book exhibition in the region. The exhibition, orchestrated by two enterprising individuals in collaboration with the Department of Information and Culture of Badghis Province, seeks to foster a culture of reading and disseminate the cultural values of Ghor and Badghis provinces. The street book exhibition was inaugurated on Monday morning, December 18th, in the city of Qala-e-Now, the provincial center, and is scheduled to run for two consecutive days.
The organizers of the exhibition have meticulously curated an impressive collection of 200 books, elegantly displayed across various sections of the exhibition. Jamaluddin Ishaqzai, one of the organizers, underscores the support they have garnered from individuals and the Department of Information and Culture of Badghis Province, instrumental in bringing this event to fruition.
It is crucial to acknowledge that amidst challenges such as the presence of the Taliban group in Afghanistan and the brain drain from the country, the availability of educational opportunities has significantly dwindled. However, it is disconcerting yet inspiring to witness many young people in different provinces taking the initiative to organize street book exhibitions, thereby playing a pivotal role in preserving the culture of reading. This commendable endeavor has, at times, encountered opposition from the Taliban group.
Despite persistent calls from national and international organizations urging the lifting of the ban on girls attending schools beyond the sixth grade and the reopening of universities for Afghanistani women and girls, the Taliban group remains steadfast, refusing to make any concessions. Simultaneously, restrictions on educational opportunities for girls persist.
