RASC News Agency: Richard Bennett, the United Nations’ special rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, recently disclosed his dialogue with Suhail Shaheen, the head of the Taliban group’s political office in Qatar. The discussion centered on various Afghanistan-related issues, particularly the rights of women and girls. In a message shared on social media on Monday night, December 11th, Bennett expressed his concerns and urged the Taliban representative to release detained human rights defenders, emphasizing the importance of upholding the principle of “general amnesty.”
In their meeting in Doha, Bennett and Shaheen explored several topics related to women’s rights, including the right to education for children. While Suhail Shaheen acknowledged the meeting with Richard Bennett in a social media message, he omitted any mention of discussions regarding human rights or women’s rights in Afghanistan. This omission is noteworthy, given the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan, where women often face denial of their fundamental rights.
It’s crucial to underscore that the Taliban group arrested four women protestors from Kabul Province, namely Zhulia Parsi, Neda Parwani, Parisa Azada, and Manizha Sediqi, nearly three months ago. These women are reportedly held in Taliban prisons, and despite repeated international calls for their release, the Taliban group has not complied. Disturbingly, there are reports of the women enduring torture and experiencing deteriorating physical and mental health while in Taliban custody.ed
