RASC News Agency: Leonard Zulu, the head of the Afghanistan department at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, recently issued a statement underscoring the dire situation in Afghanistan stemming from the forced deportation of Afghanistani refugees from Pakistan. Zulu emphasized that the Taliban’s reclaiming control in Afghanistan served as the catalyst for the worsening humanitarian conditions in the country. The process of forcibly repatriating Afghanistani refugees from Pakistan has only compounded this crisis, plunging Afghanistan into a perpetual state of emergency.
In his statement, published on Monday, December 4th, on the App Server, Zulu further expounded on the reasons behind the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. He highlighted the Taliban’s human rights violations, resulting in their isolation from the international community. Moreover, the expulsion of Afghanistani refugees from Iran and Pakistan presents a new challenge for aid institutions, as a massive wave of refugees returns to the country. Despite previous pleas from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for Pakistan to adhere to international laws regarding forced deportations, Pakistan continues to deport 20,000 Afghanistani refugees daily.
Prior to Zulu’s statement, various international relief organizations had expressed concern about the escalating number of people in need of humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. The Taliban’s control and budget cuts have significantly curtailed the activities of these organizations, further exacerbating the crisis. The stringent policies enforced by the Taliban have also contributed to the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the country. Despite the endeavors of international relief organizations, the situation remains stagnant, with the Afghanistani people enduring daily hardships.
