RASC News Agency: Roza Otunbayeva, the head of UNAMA, recently engaged in a meeting with Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s interior minister, addressing a variety of issues. A primary focus of the discussion centered on the plight of immigrants who had been expelled from neighboring countries and subsequently returned to Afghanistan. During the meeting, Otunbayeva voiced her concerns regarding the hardships faced by these immigrants within Afghanistan, particularly under the control of the Taliban group.
In a newsletter issued on December 3rd by the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, it was reported that Haqqani underscored the group’s efforts to facilitate the return of Afghanistani migrants. Contrary to statements made by the UN Secretary-General’s representative, Haqqani asserted that significant aid had been extended to support the deported migrants. He further emphasized the active involvement of various committees from different departments in addressing the challenges confronted by these immigrants.
Despite the Taliban’s endeavors to assist the deported immigrants, it is noteworthy that a substantial number of Afghanistani citizens have fled the country, seeking refuge in neighboring nations such as Pakistan and Iran. This mass exodus is propelled by numerous factors, including fear of the Taliban and economic hardships. Moreover, Afghanistani immigrants in neighboring countries not only grapple with economic challenges but also face the looming threat of forced deportation, exacerbating their already dire circumstances. Additionally, reports have emerged of deported immigrants being targeted by the Taliban group, further intensifying the precarious situation they find themselves in.
