RASC News Agency: The Friedrich Ebert Foundation, a German organization, has recently announced its decision to bestow the coveted 2023 human rights award upon Shaharzad Akbar, the former leader of the Afghanistan Human Rights Commission. In a statement released on the 11th of November, the foundation lauded Mrs. Akbar for her unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights of all Afghanistani citizens and her relentless endeavors to foster democracy and uphold human rights.
Mrs. Akbar, exhibiting immense courage, not only vocalized sharp criticism of the Taliban group but also fearlessly articulated her concerns regarding the actions of both the Afghanistani government and the international community concerning the protection and advancement of human rights.

Despite finding herself exiled with her family subsequent to the Taliban’s ascension to power and the fall of the republican regime, Shaharzad Akbar has continuously sought to raise awareness about the deplorable situation prevalent in Afghanistan. Moreover, she has tirelessly highlighted the hardships endured by Afghanistani women in their arduous fight against the Taliban. Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to her role as the head of the human rights organization, Mrs. Akbar’s dedication and resilience were acknowledged by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation through the conferral of this human rights award. This recognition bears substantial significance, symbolizing not only their unwavering support but also their unwavering solidarity with the Afghanistani people, who are currently enduring dire human conditions under the oppressive yoke of the Taliban’s control.

Shaharzad Akbar had served as the head of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission from 2019 to 2021. The Friedrich Ebert Human Rights Award will be presented to her during a momentous award ceremony scheduled to take place on the 28th of November. In response to this recognition, Mrs. Akbar expressed her deep admiration for the remarkable bravery and unwavering resilience exhibited by Afghanistani women and girls throughout one of the darkest chapters in their history. Despite confronting brutal repression, these resilient women continue fearlessly championing their rights, serving as an unparalleled source of inspiration for others.
