RASC News Agency: Following the growing concerns regarding the forced deportation of Afghanistani refugees from Pakistan, the government of Pakistan has recently announced the extension of residency for 1.4 million Afghanistani refugees whose legal documentation has expired, until the end of the current year.
In a statement released yesterday (November 10th) by the Pakistani government, it was stated that the country would extend the validity of the Registration Cards (POR Cards) issued to Afghanistani refugees until December 31st of the current year.
Previously, the validity of refugee cards was extended every six months by the Pakistani government. However, this time, the government of Pakistan set a deadline of November 1st for all undocumented migrants living in the country to leave.
It is worth mentioning that in response to Pakistan’s plan, international migration organizations and global authorities have urged the country to reconsider its decision. However, despite these requests, the Pakistani government has persisted with its decision.
It should be noted that currently, Pakistan is hosting 3.5 million Afghanistani refugees, of which only 1.4 million individuals possess valid residency documents.
Furthermore, it is important to recall that earlier, the spokesperson for the United Nations had stated that the forced deportation of Afghanistani refugees from Pakistan poses serious threats to women’s rights activists.
Similarly, Pakistani human rights activists had previously stated that many Afghanistani migrants have gone into hiding for fear of being detained by the police, and Afghanistani women prefer to die rather than return to Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban.
