RASC News Agency: The World Health Organization (WHO) urgently appeals for a budget of $7.9 million to provide crucial aid to the victims of the recent devastating earthquake in Herat province. This catastrophic event has caused a significant loss of life and widespread destruction. In a statement released on October 19, the organization emphasizes the immediate need for life-saving healthcare interventions to support the approximately 114,000 individuals impacted by these earthquakes.

Disturbing statistics provided by the WHO reveal that vulnerable communities, including women, girls, and boys, account for over 90 percent of the fatalities and injuries resulting from earthquakes. The impact of such disasters on these already marginalized groups is especially severe.

According to a report from the organization, the earthquake has inflicted significant damage on at least 40 health centers across nine districts of Herat. As a result, around 58,000 people face immense difficulty in accessing essential healthcare services. This situation is particularly concerning given that the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs previously estimated that addressing the needs of the Herat earthquake victims across various sectors would require a funding of $93.6 million.

Furthermore, the World Food Program has emphasized the urgent requirement of $19 million to extend aid to the numerous victims affected by the Herat earthquakes. This underscores the gravity of the situation and the substantial assistance required to address the monumental scale of the calamity.

According to a report by the United Nations, the recent earthquakes have directly impacted more than 43,000 individuals, leading to the destruction of over 3,330 houses. The toll on both human lives and infrastructure is undoubtedly devastating.

It is of utmost importance to emphasize that the recent seismic events in Herat province have given rise to a catastrophic scenario, resulting in the loss of thousands of lives and leaving many individuals injured. Furthermore, it is crucial to acknowledge that a significant level of assistance is needed to effectively address the immense magnitude of this catastrophe.
