RASC News Agency: Verified local sources from Panjshir province have confirmed the apprehension of a former government soldier by the Taliban group’s intelligence division within the same province. On Tuesday, October 17, reliable sources from Panjshir province informed the media that Shamsul Haq Yousufi, a military officer, was detained by the Taliban’s intelligence division in the Dara district of the province on the preceding day.
According to these sources, Yousufi had previously served as a soldier in the previous government and had resided in Iran for a period of time before being expelled and returning to Afghanistan. The exact motive for his arrest by the Taliban has not yet been clarified, as reported by the sources.
However, it is crucial to acknowledge that the Taliban group has a track record of detaining, subjecting to torture, and, regrettably, even executing soldiers from the previous government in various provinces of Afghanistan. This alarming practice persists despite previous reports from the United Nations, which highlighted the ongoing occurrence of such arrests, torture, and killings of former government soldiers within areas under Taliban control.
Moreover, it is noteworthy to mention that the Taliban group has claimed to apprehend, harass, and, disturbingly, even eliminate residents of Panjshir province under the suspicion of their affiliation with the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan. The National Resistance Front, led by Ahmad Masoud, is a covert group that has been actively conducting operations against the Taliban in different provinces of the country ever since the group’s takeover of Afghanistan.
In addition to the National Resistance Front, several other clandestine factions have emerged, engaging in covert operations against the Taliban group across various provinces within the nation.
