RASC News Agency: According to a report by Reuters, officials from the Ministry of Combating Natural Disasters, representing the Taliban group, have released distressing statistics regarding the earthquake that struck Herat Province. The death toll has now soared to a tragic 2,053 victims, while an alarming 9,240 individuals have been left injured in its wake. The destructive power of this seismic event extended to the point where more than 1,329 houses were either completely demolished or severely damaged.
In an effort to provide more on-the-ground information, Janan Sayeq, the spokesperson for the Ministry of the Taliban group in Combatting Natural Disasters, delivered a somber update to the news agency on a sorrowful Sunday, October 8th. He emphasized the gravity of the situation, shedding light on the devastation caused by the earthquake.
In a separate communication, the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society, which operates under the jurisdiction of the Taliban group, shared a disheartening assessment of the situation. The humanitarian organization declared that the death toll had surged even higher, reaching an anguishing count of 400 lives lost. Reports from the press suggest that numerous villages in the province have been reduced to ruins, and it is deeply feared that hundreds of individuals remain trapped beneath the rubble. Dedicated search and rescue operations are currently underway in an attempt to save those stranded in what remains an arduous and harrowing task.
Crucially, it should be noted that this merciless earthquake, measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale, struck Herat Province and other neighboring areas on the tranquil morning of Saturday, October 7th. The devastating tremor was accompanied by relentless aftershocks, which only intensified the toll on human lives and magnified the extent of the damages sustained in the region. Consequently, the regional hospital of Herat Province was compelled to declare a state of emergency to cope with the surge of injured victims seeking medical attention as a result of this catastrophic natural calamity.
Currently, the Taliban has taken a rather unexpected course of action by making a heartfelt plea to female physicians to return to their service within the regional hospital of Herat. Their purpose is to help alleviate the overwhelming burden of treating casualties stemming from the recent earthquake. It is worth noting that these resilient and compassionate women and girls has been denied access to education when the Taliban group took power. Now, amid this heartbreaking tragedy, their invaluable skills and knowledge are recognized and sought after.
