RASC News Agency: The former head of United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Deborah Lyons, who also served as Canada’s ambassador to Afghanistan, asserted that the Taliban have been targeting certain ethnic communities since assuming power in the country two years ago.
Ms. Deborah Lyons, who spoke to a Canadian newspaper, asserted that the Taliban have been actively targeting certain ethnic communities in recent years, as well as the personnel of the previous government, particularly the military, in reprisal for their actions.
Ms. Lyons continued: “The story of Afghanistan is not over yet and we are in a difficult season, but we all have to work hard.”
Ms. Lyons did not specify which ethnic groups were targeted by the Taliban, but it has been widely reported that Hazara and Tajiks have been targeted by the Taliban and subjected to the group’s oppressive policies in the last two years. She also called on countries to step up their humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
This is in spite of the fact that for the past two years, the Taliban have carried out acts of terror against non-Pashtun ethnic groups, particularly Hazaras or Tajiks. In some cases, the Taliban have killed many members of these ethnicities.
It should also be noted that most Tajiks have been arrested, maltreated and killed by this group on charges of belonging to the National Resistance Front (NRF), which fights against the Tajiks under the leadership of Ahmad Massoud.
Taliban act that they are creating an inclusive government, but in real live they are targeting non- Pashtun ethnic group inside the country.
