RASC News Agency: Following the warnings of the bad economic situation in Afghanistan, the International Committee of the Red Crescent has said that 55% of the people of Afghanistan need humanitarian aid.

In its report on the first half of 2023, this committee stated on Thursday, August 24, that the economic sanctions on Afghanistan add to the depth of the dire situation in this country.

This institution has said that only in the first half of this year (from January to June) it has helped 581,548 patients, most of whom are women and children, in 47 health centers of the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society.

This institution has also said that it has provided three meals to more than 12 thousand prisoners in 11 Afghanistan prisons during this period.

The International Committee of the Red Crescent pledged to continue its assistance to the people of Afghanistan in the field of health care and improving livelihoods.

After the Taliban regained control of the country, poverty, unemployment, and the need for humanitarian aid increased sharply, and a number of international aid organizations warned against the reduction of aid due to the lack of funds.

Earlier, the International Committee of the Red Crescent said it would cut off its financial aid to 25 hospitals in Afghanistan.

Diogo Alcantara, the spokesman of the International Committee of the Red Crescent, informed the media on Thursday (August 17) that the cuts in aid are due to lack of funds.

The spokesman of the Red Crescent said that this organization does not have enough financial resources to provide health services in Afghanistan.

These hospitals were supported by the International Committee of the Red Crescent a few months after the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan.

This international organization initially provided financial coverage to 33 hospitals that paid the salaries of more than 10,000 health workers in Afghanistan.
