RASC News Agency: Daniel Andres, the coordinator of humanitarian aid of the United Nations, says that more than 29 million people in Afghanistan need humanitarian aids and the sources of funding for this aid are drying up.
Although Afghanistan has been the focus of world humanitarian aid for at least the past two years, not only has the number of people in need not decreased, but according to the United Nations Humanitarian Aid Coordinator, today more than 29 million Afghanistani citizens are in need of humanitarian aid; Although last year the aid reached to 26 million people.
Daniel Anders noted, “Today, humanitarian needs in Afghanistan have reached their highest level and more than 29 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. On the other hand, funding sources are drying up and this threatens the lives and health of millions of people, we cannot allow this to happen.”
While the level of need for humanitarian aid in Afghanistan is very high, the amount of aid to this country is decreasing.
According to aid agencies, food aid for two million needy people in Afghanistan will be stopped by next month. With this account, since last year, at least 8 million people in need of humanitarian aid have been excluded from receiving aid.
This is while the United Nations is facing a shortfall of 1.3 billion dollars in funding to deal with urgent humanitarian needs this year, and therefore has reduced the process of providing aid to Afghanistan.
In the meantime, the United Nations humanitarian aid coordinator has said that 30 of their employees have been killed in Afghanistan in the last two years after the Taliban took over.
