RASC: Amnesty International has criticized the widespread restriction of freedom of expression and the burning of musical instruments.

This organization said that with this action of the Taliban group in Afghanistan, artistic and critical expression has been stifled in this country.

This organization tweeted on Tuesday, August 1: “Since taking power in 2021, the Taliban group has increasingly restricted freedom of expression in Afghanistan and stifled artistic and critical expression.”

The Directorate of Amr Bil Maruf of the Taliban group, which implements Islamic laws is one of its duties, has recently announced the burning of musical instruments.

These musical instruments were collected by the officers of this department from different provinces during the past months.

At the same time, this group warned that those who sell musical instruments will face serious action.

Amnesty International, publishing a picture showing burning musical instruments, wrote that “this is another example” of the Taliban group’s attempt to stifle artistic and critical expression in Afghanistan.

The Taliban group has banned the media from covering news that is critical of the current situation in the country and has repeatedly threatened the media and journalists.

In the same way, this group, in continuation of its cultural campaign, has also banned the broadcasting of music and entertainment programs through the country’s media, burned many musical instruments and limited the media’s activity area.
