Three People Were Arrested for Stealing Pistachios from Pistachio Forests in Badghis Province

RASC: The officials of the local administration of Badghis province confirm that three people have been arrested on the charge of stealing pistachio products from the forests of this province.

The local administration of Badghis province said in a newsletter that the protection forces of the pistachio forests of Badghis province prevented a group of six people from picking and stealing pistachios, three of whom were arrested by this administration and the other three managed to escape.

According to the officials, this group of six people were planning to pick pistachios from pistachio forests in Abkamri district around midnight on Saturday, July 8, when they were met with the reaction of the forest protection forces.

It is said that these protection teams were mandated by the Badghis Department of Agriculture in order to protect the pistachio forests of this province.

Badghis pistachio forests are among the country’s national capitals, which have decreased from 90,000 hectares to 30,000 hectares during the past years due to drought and neglect by the officials of these natural forests.

It is mentionable that, unemployment and poverty caused which people are trying to steal pistachio from Badghis pistachios forest.
