RASC: With the start of the wheat harvest season in Kandahar, farmers in this province are optimistic about the increase in wheat yields compared to last year.
Abdul Rahim, 33 years old, one of the farmers in Daman, Kandahar, told RASC about the increase in wheat yields: “Yes, this year a large amount of wheat was planted, which was 40 percent more than previous years. As well as, we are currently harvesting wheat, and we hope that this year’s wheat that is cultivated in Kandahar and neighboring provinces to meet the needs of our compatriots and we do not need to import wheat from neighboring countries.
However, farmers are also facing challenges, from the lack of water resources to the lack of special agricultural fertilizers in the country’s markets, which has greatly affected their cultivation.
It should be noted that in addition to the natural challenges, the Taliban group has also prohibited farmers from harvesting their crops with agricultural machinery and told them that they have no right to harvest their land with machinery.
The officials of the Taliban have mentioned this action in order to create job opportunities for the people.
It is worth mentioning that after the return of the Taliban to the power of the economic crisis and the lack of work for the citizens of the country, there has been an unprecedented increase and the Taliban group has not had any effective plan to raise the economic level of the people.
