RASC: Samia Toorah is the second woman from Afghanistan who made it to Forbes magazine’s 2023 list of influential people under 30 years old.
This magazine in various categories publishes the list of “30 people under 30” annually.
Forbes magazine wrote about Ms. Toorah that as a student at Oxford University in the UK, she used her own resources to help her father in the complicated asylum process, and during that, she founded a network called “Dosti” to help other Afghanistani.
About being selected in this list, Samia Toorah told the BBC that she wants to tell Afghanistani women that this is an honor for their bravery and courage. She added: “Because they are my inspiration to continue fighting for justice.”
Dosti Network created with the goal of giving Afghanistani the opportunity to settle abroad or live safely within their country by listing resources such as emergency shelters, immigration assistance and scholarships, as well as fundraising.
Ms. Toorah previously worked on taking a stigma-free look at women’s menstrual health and hygiene in Afghanistan and Pakistan. She is currently completing her master’s degree in international human rights at the University of Oxford.
Her life story and struggle for education was the subject of a BBC report in 2020.
