RASC: The U.S. Department of the Interior says it will not accept asylum applications from people who enter the U.S. illegally under a new law that takes effect Thursday.
People who themselves or a member of their family have permission to travel to America, as well as unaccompanied children, are exempt from this rule.
With the approval of this law, this law will also affect many Afghans who enter the US illegally from other countries seeking asylum.
The US Department of the Interior said in a news release that the law, by facilitating legal avenues, imposes consequences for not using them, such as certain restrictive conditions for eligibility to apply for asylum after entering the United States illegally.
The news release of the US Department of the Interior states that this rule will not apply to families where one of their family members has permission to travel to the United States.
In addition, people who have compelling exceptional circumstances, such as those whose asylum applications been rejected in another country, are also exempted from the new law.
