RASC News Agency: Reports from Takhar suggest a troubling surge in forced marriages, with Taliban officials allegedly pressuring families to hand over their daughters to group members under the threat of violence and persecution. According to sources, Mawlawi Ammar, a senior Taliban intelligence officer, recently forced a young girl from Farkhar District into marriage. This marks his third marriage, and the girl’s family fearing direct threats and the Taliban’s grip on their community was left with no choice but to comply.
“When a Taliban fighter chooses a bride, opposition is met with threats, imprisonment, or even death. No one dares to defy them,” a local resident told RASC. Reports indicate that Taliban members in Takhar are systematically intimidating families, warning that refusal to give away their daughters could result in arrest or brutal punishment. In a separate case, sources revealed that Imad, the Taliban’s deputy ambassador to Tehran, traveled today to Sang-Atash village in Farkhar to claim a bride. Having already been married twice, Imad’s reputation for exerting pressure on families has left his latest target too terrified to refuse his proposal.
This pattern of coercion is not new. The Taliban have long been accused of forcing families into surrendering their daughters, using intimidation and violence as tools of enforcement. Just yesterday, a Taliban commander in Badakhshan allegedly issued an ultimatum to a village elder, warning that if he refused to give his daughter in marriage to the commander’s brother-in-law, he would face imprisonment and torture. Since seizing power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have escalated their campaign of oppression and control over local communities. For many Afghanistani citizens, their rule has only deepened resentment and intensified public outrage.
