RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan Freedom Front has asserted responsibility for a targeted attack in Herat province that resulted in the deaths of three Taliban fighters and left two others injured. In a statement, the group disclosed that the operation took place on the evening of Wednesday, January 22, near Khwaja Abdullah Ansari Square in Herat city. According to the statement, Mullah Zaid Noorzai, the Taliban’s commander of the sixth district in Herat, was present at the scene during the assault. However, reports regarding his fate remain unverified. Local sources had earlier reported an attack targeting Taliban forces in the city on the same evening.
The Taliban’s authorities in Herat have yet to issue any comments regarding the incident. The Afghanistan Freedom Front, along with the National Resistance Front, has frequently taken responsibility for similar operations across various provinces. These resistance groups emerged in response to the Taliban’s return to power, rejecting what they describe as the group’s ethnic and religious authoritarianism. Their declared objective is the liberation of Afghanistan and the establishment of social justice throughout the country. Over the past three years, the armed resistance groups claim to have neutralized thousands of Taliban fighters, directly undermining the group’s assertions of having restored nationwide security.
Notably, these operations have been carried out without any external support for the resistance forces. In stark contrast, the Taliban, described by critics as an intelligence-backed militant regime, continues to receive substantial financial, military, and political support from the United States and several other international intelligence organizations. The ongoing activities of these resistance factions underscore the growing opposition to the Taliban’s regime, challenging its claims of stability and authority while shedding light on the enduring fight for justice and freedom in Afghanistan.
