RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s recent decision to bar girls from pursuing education in medical institutes has drawn widespread condemnation from Afghanistani citizens and international advocacy groups championing education. This draconian measure has been labeled as alarming and egregious by both the global community and Afghanistani nationals. The National Movement for Peace and Justice party has unequivocally denounced the decision, describing it as horrifying and calling for its immediate reversal. In a statement addressing the ban, the party declared:
“The Taliban, devoid of any religious or legal justification, have stripped Afghanistani women and girls of their most basic and inalienable rights.” The statement also underscored the broader bans on girls’ education in schools and universities, labeling the decree as a “crime” and demanding its urgent annulment. Former Member of Parliament for Badakhshan, Fawzia Koofi, expressed profound concern over the decision, urging the prosecution of the Taliban for their systematic oppression. Addressing Karim Khan, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Koofi stated:
“The women and girls of Afghanistan are looking to the ICC to deliver justice and hold the Taliban accountable.” Female students affected by the ban have also taken a stand, staging protests and demanding the Taliban rescind their oppressive decision. This decree follows a recent order by the Taliban leader that mandates the closure of all medical and semi-higher educational institutions to female students.
Noor Jalal Jalali, the Taliban’s Minister of Public Health, confirmed the ban on Monday during a meeting with officials from health institutes in Kabul. He announced that girls would no longer be allowed to pursue education in these institutions. Furthermore, institute administrators have been explicitly warned to adhere to the Taliban’s directive and enforce the exclusion of female students from attending classes.
This latest act of exclusion marks yet another chapter in the Taliban’s systematic campaign to marginalize women, depriving them of education and eroding their fundamental rights.
