RASC News Agency: Afghanistani journalists in exile, based in Europe and North America, have issued an appeal to Donald Trump, the newly elected President of the United States, urging him to officially nullify the Doha Agreement. In a statement released on Sunday, November 24, these journalists called for those responsible for the agreement to be held accountable under international law, stressing the need for their prosecution in international criminal courts.
The statement declared: “We urge President Trump to take decisive action against the architects of the Doha Agreement, whose actions have empowered terrorist groups in Afghanistan, the region, and beyond. These individuals must face justice in accordance with international legal frameworks.” The journalists emphasized that freedom of the press and expression in Afghanistan, once hailed as one of the most significant achievements of the international community, has now been stifled under the oppressive censorship imposed by the Taliban regime.
Highlighting the dire circumstances, the statement revealed that over the past three years of Taliban rule, hundreds of instances of violence, torture, and the murder of journalists have been recorded. The exiled reporters further noted that working conditions for media professionals under the Taliban have become intolerable. Over 4,000 journalists and media workers have been forced to flee the country, many of whom were subjected to arrest, torture, or imprisonment before their departure. Of approximately 2,000 female media workers previously active in Afghanistan, only 50 remain in the field, operating under extremely precarious and heavily censored conditions.
The statement concluded with a sobering reminder: Afghanistan is currently ranked among the five most dangerous countries in the world for journalism and media work, according to recent surveys.
