Taliban’s Ministry of Vice and Virtue Vows to Enforce New Law Unconditionally

RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has declared its resolve to enforce its new regulations progressively and under any circumstance. Saifur Rahman Khyber, the Ministry’s spokesperson, stated that although full enforcement will not be achieved within a year, all elements identified as “prohibitions” will be systematically implemented.

Khyber remarked, “It is unrealistic to expect that any law can be fully enacted in one year. We will advance incrementally, covering every aspect of the law, be it related to media or any other identified vices.” Simultaneously, the Deputy Minister of Vice and Virtue, in a joint meeting with officials from the Ministries of Information and Culture, and Labor and Social Affairs, called upon all Taliban-affiliated institutions to support and uphold this law.

Saeed Ahmad Shaheedkhil, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Vice and Virtue, stated, “We urge all government officials, including ministers, deputies, and heads of Islamic Emirate institutions, to assist in the enforcement and defense of this law across every province.” These remarks were issued following actions by the Ministry’s enforcers to shut down Radio Long due to female callers and background music featured in its programs.

Over the past three years, the Taliban has enacted some of the strictest restrictions on media in Afghanistan. Since implementing this law, they have also banned the broadcast of images of living beings in the provinces of Kandahar, Takhar, Badghis, and Khost, further entrenching their rigorous control over media activities in the country.
