RASC News Agency: Local sources report that Gul Bibi, a 55-year-old woman who was brutally beaten by the Taliban’s police commander in the Darqad district of Takhar two days earlier, has died of her injuries in the hospital. According to sources, the Taliban police commander in Darqad assaulted Gul Bibi and several other women following a violent dispute. The Taliban allegedly subjected these women to violence over a land conflict.
On Sunday, November 3, local sources provided video footage to media outlets, showing that Gul Bibi had succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Sources clarified that the deceased woman, along with several others, was beaten two days earlier in Darqad during a land dispute involving a local Taliban commander. According to these sources, the Taliban police commander in Darqad, working in coordination with “a local land-grabber and oppressor,” sought to destroy crops belonging to these women. When the women resisted the Taliban’s plan, officials, including the district deputy and the Darqad police commander, arrived at the scene in the evening to force the women off their land.
According to sources, Abdul Khaliq, the Taliban’s police commander in Darqad, assaulted the women after they refused the group’s demands to abandon their land. In the assault, Gul Bibi sustained severe injuries, more than any other women involved in the conflict, and was taken to the hospital. Sources stated that the woman was then transferred from Taleqan to a hospital in Kunduz, where she remained in a coma for approximately 24 hours before passing away on the evening of Saturday, November 2.
Following the incident and the woman’s death, residents of Darqad, Takhar, held protests. In response, the Taliban mobilized its forces to suppress the demonstrations. The Taliban’s official representatives have yet to issue a statement regarding this incident.
