RASC News Agency: Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Prize-winning women’s rights advocate, has condemned the Taliban’s treatment of women in Afghanistan, describing it as barbaric, cruel, and extreme. In a post on X, Yousafzai stated, “The Taliban continue to figuratively and literally weaponize their power against girls and women in Afghanistan. From public beatings to draconian decrees that deny women the right to education, work, and a life of freedom, the Taliban’s brutal regime against women is so extreme that activists and human rights defenders have labeled it gender apartheid.”
Yousafzai underscored that Afghanistani women and girls require more than symbolic gestures of sympathy they need unwavering solidarity and tangible efforts to fight for their future. She urged world governments and powerful international bodies to use their influence to hold the Taliban accountable through the framework of international law. Yousafzai also called on the leaders of Muslim-majority nations and religious organizations to take a proactive stance in challenging the Taliban’s “exploitation of religion and culture” to justify their oppressive policies.
The activist emphasized that in this critical moment, the Afghanistani people must stand with their women and girls in solidarity, supporting their resistance to the Taliban’s tyranny. Since reclaiming power, the Taliban have systematically stripped citizens especially women of basic human rights, banning them from education and public life. In their most recent move, the Taliban enacted the “Law of Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice,” which deems a woman’s voice and appearance as “Awrah,” effectively banning women from public spaces where men are present, reinforcing their complete exclusion from public life.
