RASC News Agency: Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, addressed the United Nations General Assembly, urging the Taliban to take steps towards establishing an inclusive government. Sharif affirmed that Pakistan aligns with the expectations of the international community and called on the Taliban to respect human rights, with a particular emphasis on women’s rights.
Speaking on Friday, September 27, during the fourth day of the UN General Assembly, Sharif stressed that Pakistan is keen to see a rapid normalization of the situation in Afghanistan. He noted that terrorist organizations, including ISIS, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), al-Qaeda, and other groups, are currently operating within Afghanistan.
Sharif further urged the Taliban to take decisive action against terrorism, specifically targeting those responsible for carrying out deadly attacks within Pakistan. Earlier, on Wednesday, September 25, the foreign ministers of Germany, Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands had issued a stern warning, stating that if the status of women and girls in Afghanistan does not improve, they would lodge a formal complaint against the Taliban at the International Court of Justice.
Prior to this, Iran and several other regional countries had also pressed the Taliban to establish an inclusive government and uphold women’s rights. However, the Taliban have declared their administration as already representative of all, dismissing international demands for inclusivity and respect for human rights as interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.
The Taliban have also denied claims that insecurity in Pakistan is linked to Afghanistan, labeling it a domestic issue for Islamabad, while refuting the presence of terrorist groups within Afghanistan borders. The group has shown little intention of forming a broader government and remains unresponsive to the concerns of any nation, including their closest allies.
